Synopsis
Half a year after the passing of his travel partner and life mentor Clif, Squall has an unexpected reunion with Ashe at his new village in the snowy mountains. Squall quickly falls for one of his partners, Aurelia-- the first woman he ever developed romantic feelings for. After a request from Ashe to help her see the World (her biggest life dream), Squall agrees to be her bodyguard and travel partner.
There had been little danger in their travails thus far, which was good for peace– but poor for Squall’s hot-blooded demeanor. At the end of it all, Squall was always a man fond of a good scrap. After stumbling upon the remnants of an old City, Squall and Aurelia are intrigued, vowing to explore to find a souvenir for their mutual loved one, Ashe. Old technology and mysterious artifacts are abundant, and they eventually stumble upon what appears to be a decommissioned robot of sorts. Aurelia's clumsy behaviors unwittingly awaken it from his slumber and is taken by surprise once it begins to attack her without mercy. Its distorted wails demand a challenger, and Squall is a man ready to take up the mantle with gusto. Once defeated the robot backs down, but to their surprise it proclaims allegiance to Squall for having defeated it. To its knowledge, its programming was meant to make it a martial learning robot-- and it saw Squall as a more than worthy master. Squall tempers his ego and welcomes the robot into their travel party, if it so wished. When he asks for the robot's name, the machine realizes that it's data seems to have corrupted. It has no idea when it was built, or if it ever had a title at all. Seeing the Valor in its stubbornness and potential loyalty, Squall dubs it "Valerie". Having accomplishes their mission with a few interesting and futuristic looking baubles, they resolve to venture back to the mountains to pay Ashe a visit, Valerie in tow as it gradually re-learns that it is emotionally sentient. |
